Postdoc Position at University of Cambridge

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position in proteomics at University of Cambridge, UK. Applications are welcome before November 11, 2018.

The MRC has funded the CLUSTER consortium (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/child-health/news/2018/mar/study-5000-children-young-people-works-towards-personalised-treatment-childhood) to improve treatment decisions for children with childhood arthritis and its associated uveitis through stratification of patients. This study will generate multi-omics data (transcriptomics, proteomics, flow cytometry) from multiple cell types from children with active and treated disease. We are seeking a statistician to take primary responsibility for analysis of the multi-omics data, and its integration with clinical outcome data to help identify biomarkers that can help predict the right treatment for each child.

This will involve the adaptation and application of established pipelines for raw data processing, and statistical analysis relating these measures to outcome. As statistical methods for multi-omics data are a developing field, it is likely that statistical development work will be required. In addition, these data offer opportunities to exploit prior knowledge and explore specific dimensions relating to established pathways in childhood arthritis to understand their (dys-)regulation in relation to disease state.

This is an exciting opportunity for a (career-) statistician to make a substantial contribution to the area of multi-omics data analysis and stratified medicine in a supportive environment. They will be expected to take ownership of their part of this project, communicate results to the data analysis team at regular meetings, and to take a lead in presenting the results to a wider audience, through conference presentations and writing manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.

The data analysis team is itself a collaboration between researchers in Manchester and Cambridge, who will adopt different approaches and thus benefit from regular interaction in our monthly calls and face to face meetings. Expert domain knowledge will be supplied by collaborators within CLUSTER. This post will be based within the MRC Biostatistics Unit (https://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk), which has established excellence for analysis of omics data and for statistical methods for stratified medicine. The post-holder will be a member of the Wallace group (http://chr1swallace.github.io), and the SOMX (“statistical omics”) theme (https://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/research-and-development/somx-statistical-omics/).

Informal enquiries about this post are very welcome, to Chris Wallace cew54@cam.ac.uk.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 2 July 2023 in the first instance.

The post is full-time but applications are welcome from those who would like to work flexibly.

The closing date is 11th November 2018. The interview date is TBC.

Please ensure that you upload a covering letter and CV in the Upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.
