This position will be based at the Alavian Lab in the Division of Brain Sciences, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. A highly motivated scientist is sought for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Kambiz Alavian. The broad aim of this project is to understand the role of mitochondria energetics and cellular metabolism in neuronal and synaptic physiology and plasticity. The project involves the use of multiple techniques, including Western blots and IPs, cell culture, confocal microscopy and metabolic activity measurement/assays to study mitochondrial energetics and metabolism in primary neuronal cultures. The ideal candidate for this position will be an independent thinker with expertise and a record of accomplishment in mitochondrial biology, cellular energetics, neuronal/synaptic physiology/plasticity or ion channel physiology. S/he will have experience in a broad range of techniques including Western blots, cell culture, cell fractionation, immunohistochemistry/fluorescence, confocal microscopy and metabolic activity assays.
