Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is offering postdoctoral researcher position in polymers. This position is available for 12 months in the first instance. The deadline for applying is November 18, 2018.

Your work will focus on the experimental study of optical biosensor development, including the preparation of polymers with optical properties and their characterisation. You will need to be able to functionalise these optical polymers with aptamers (DNA, RNA) to develop quantitative, selective, sensitive sensors for continuous biomarker monitoring. Consequently, you need to be able to work across several disciplines, be able to combine experimental and theoretical work, and have a strong background in polymer chemistry, laser physics, and optics. Depending on project requirements, you may also need to work in other areas, requiring a high degree of flexibility, self-motivation and ability to acquire new knowledge.

As well as conducting your own research, you will work with a team of research students, providing technical and practical guidance and support to their projects; and be responsible for managing the lab and implementing and maintaining safe working practices.

You should hold a first degree (or equivalent) and PhD (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline with particular emphasis on polymer synthesis and functionalisation, optics, or laser physics.

The successful applicant will have a proven world-class research track record in any of the above areas, as evidenced by first-author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and experience in presenting at relevant international conferences.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 32,380 - 34,040 per annum.

The appointment is for 12 months in the first instance.

Further information about the post is available in the job description. Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Dr. Ali Yetisen (a.yetisen@imperial.ac.uk).
