Post PhD Position at Open University

Open University, UK is inviting excellent candidates to apply for a Post PhD position in materials engineering. Applications should be sent before November 13, 2018.

The Open University is participating in the Horizon 2020 European research project ATLASplus which is addressing structural integrity issues associated with the safe operation of Gen II and III nuclear reactors. ATLASplus is a 7M project involves 19 industrial and academic partners from across the EU.

The Materials Engineering group at the Open University is contributing to two work packages exploring innovative characterisation of welding residual stress and its treatment in engineering safety assessments of large piping components under long term operation.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to lead innovative experimental work and analytical neural network modelling for the ATLASplus programme. You will need to work closely with other work package partners in Europe and with UK consortium partners (Bristol University, Manchester University, EDF Energy and the Wood Group). We expect you to make rapid progress in the project leading to early publication as the planned research will build upon historic innovative work at the OU in this field.

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject with research experience of measuring residual stresses, neural network modelling and writing engineering analysis software. In addition, the candidate must have a good publication track record and be able to evidence abilities to think critically, to write concisely in English, to work in a team and to communicate effectively with people at all levels in academia and industry.
