PhD Scholarship at University of Ghent

A PhD scholarship in public health is available at University of Ghent. The deadline for applying is November 30, 2018.

Food contact materials and packaging materials are applied to prolonge the shelf-life of food products, to govern their quality and safety. However, migration of chemical compounds from these materials but also from the applied glues and inks may happen and may lead to a food safety problem. The components applied for the production of inks and glues and their potential migration capacity are yet not well known and is the central theme of this research. In this research we seek to make an inventory of applied components, establish their migration capacity towards food products and their toxicological profile.

Further, the development of a multi screening method for components from inks and glues with high priority is aimed for in this research project (based on GC-MSMS and/or LC-MSMS). These methods will be used in the screening of food products present on the market and a risk assessment towards impact on human health is calculated at the end of this project, to allow a preparatory basis for further risk management strategies.

For the research project 'ROMIL' starting from 1st of January 2019 we are looking for an active, critical and competent Ph.D student with a strong affinity for analytics. Romil is a 4-years running project, funded by the Belgian Ministry of Public Health. Romil stands for 'Risk prioritisation and development of multi method for analysis of migrating components from glues and inks'.

CV and motivation letter to send over to by 30 November 2018.
