PhD Project Algorithms for Uncertain Trajectories at Eindhoven University of Technology

Advances in tracking technology have resulted in an explosion of movement data. Existing algorithms to analyze movement data assume that measured trajectories are completely accurate, but this is unrealistic. The goal of the project is to develop geometric algorithms for uncertain trajectories.

Advances in tracking technology have resulted in an explosion of movement data. Existing algorithms to analyze movement data assume that measured trajectories are completely accurate, but this is unrealistic and limits the scope of the analysis.

The project "Algorithms for Uncertain Trajectories", funded by an NWO-TOP grant, attacks this challenge. The goal of the project is to develop efficient geometric algorithms for uncertain trajectories with provable guarantees on the quality of the output. Geometric problems on trajectories include similarity analysis, segmentation, clustering, and computing movement patterns.

The project will take place in the Algorithms Group at the TU Eindhoven, under the supervision of dr. Kevin Buchin. The Algorithms Group (http://www.win.tue.nl/alg/), headed by prof. Mark de Berg, mainly focuses on algorithms and data structures for spatial data, robotics, and optimization problems related to networks.
