Nihr School for Public Health Research 2 PhD Studentships at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge, UK is offering PhD position in public health. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for 3 years in UK. Applications are welcome before November 16, 2018.

Applications are invited for two 3-year NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR) PhD studentships starting in April 2019, based in the Cambridge Institute of Public Health (CIPH), University of Cambridge. SPHR aims to increase the volume and quality of evidence to underpin cost-effective public health practice at a local level in England. The studentships offer the opportunity for students to explore and develop their own area of research, within the context of the research strategies of SPHR and IPH.

Candidates should contact one or more potential supervisors before completing their application to discuss their research ideas and ensure that they fit within both SPHR and CIPH research strategies.

Studentship will commence on or before 1st April 2019. Studentships are for 3 years full time. Candidates must possess a Masters’ degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a first or upper second class undergraduate degree or equivalent.

Applicants who are UK nationals or residents: The NIHR SPHR will fund stipend and fees for three years up to the value of Research Councils UK, plus a limited budget for fieldwork costs. Other European Economic Area (EEA) applicants: only partial funding may be available, covering university fees only. Additional funds may be available through other schemes and we suggest that, in addition to your application to us, you also seek out opportunities for maintenance or bursary funding (see for example: Non-EEA Applicants are not eligible for NIHR SPHR funding.

Students will be registered with the University of Cambridge and belong to one of its Colleges. The student will be integrated into one of the public health focussed research projects or programmes related to the NIHR SPHR.

Established in April 2012, the NIHR SPHR is a partnership between eight leading academic centres with excellence in applied public health research in England. The School aims to build the evidence base for effective public health practice. The School’s research looks at what works practically to improve population health and reduce health inequalities, can be applied across the country and better meets the needs of policymakers, practitioners and the public. The School’s funding runs until March 2022.

The Cambridge Institute of Public Health generates knowledge and evidence to improve global public health, using our research, teaching and analysis to promote well-being, prevent disease and reduce health inequalities. The SPHR@Cam research team includes members of the Public Health of Ageing Research Unit; the Behaviour and Health Research Unit; the MRC Epidemiology Unit, which hosts the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR); as well as public mental health researchers associated with the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute.
