Flame Synthesis of Nanoparticles Using Turbulent Spray Flames Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The University of Sydney is delighted to offer a PhD position in chemical kinetics. This position is available for three years. Applications are welcome before October 15, 2018.

An opportunity is available for an outstanding Masters by Research or PhD scholar in the area of Flame Synthesis of Nanoparticles using Turbulent Spray Flames. This research project is ultimately aimed to using flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) to synthesize a range of functional materials and nanoparticles which potentially include metal oxides, salts and metals from combustible solutions of metal-nitrates or organometallics.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in a Masters by Research or PhD within the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of Flame Synthesis of Nanoparticles using Turbulent Spray Flames. Applicants must also hold a Bachelor's degree or a Master’s degree in a related field of science or engineering with a substantial research component, or equivalent. The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the basis of: curriculum vitae that demonstrates knowledge of thermal engineering with potential to learn laser diagnostics, turbulent flows, spectroscopy and chemical kinetics. The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s) in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.

The Scholarship will provide an annual stipend of $28,000 (fixed amount) for up to three years for PhD applicants and for up to one year for Master by Research applicants, subject to satisfactory academic performance. No extension is possible. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the Scholarship, will be deducted from the maximum duration of the Scholarship excluding the potential extension period. The Scholarship is for commencement in relevant research period in which it is offered for and cannot be deferred or transferred to another area of research. No other amount is payable. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding. Progression is subject to passing the annual progress review.
