Clinical Research Fellow Imperial at Imperial College London

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position at Imperial College London. This position is available for three years in the first instance. The deadline for applying is December 09, 2018.

As a world leading centre for research and training, Imperial College London is keen to attract and cultivate the most promising clinical academic researchers. The ICL Faculty of Medicine is one of the largest in Europe and is at the forefront of translating biomedical discoveries into patient benefit. We deliver outstanding research and impact from our wide-ranging discovery and translational science programmes. Our doctoral training schemes immerse students and researchers in world-leading scientific discovery and its translation.

Applications are invited from exceptional medical graduates who demonstrate a commitment to a research career and aspire to become the next generation of clinical academic leaders to join our prestigious PhD Fellowship Programmes. The Fellowships will be full-time and fixed term for three years. The funding covers clinical salary, PhD registration fees at the UK/EU rate, College fees, associated project costs and general training costs. Applicants must be GMC registered, fully qualified medical doctors in training in the UK, and at Core Training level or above, in any specialty. Our preferred method of application is online via the Job Applicant section of the ICL website. Applicants should complete and upload an application form and CV as directed, quoting reference number: xxxx. Further details about the Fellowships and a job description can be found on the CATO website (Clinical Academic Training Office). Opportunities are available through a number of funding streams including; our Wellcome Trust/NIHR Imperial BRC Clinical PhD 4i programme and Imperial Clinician-Investigator Scholarships (ICCIS). Successful candidates will be selected on the basis of academic potential to reach the highest standards of scientific research, regardless of clinical specialty. Appointed Fellows will be matched to projects and supervisors during exploratory discussions with our PhD Programmes selection panel. We aim to achieve a comprehensive spread of fellows across our leading research areas and anticipate appointing only one fellow per laboratory group.

There is a single application process and eligibility criteria for Wellcome/BRC 4i and ICCIS candidates can submit one application only and need not specify which post they are applying for, this will be discussed at the time of interview. The Wellcome/BRC Imperial Immunity, Inflammation, Infection and Informatics (4i) programme offers an unparalleled portfolio of high quality internationally competitive PhD research fellowships focussing on the academic strengths of Imperial College London that are relevant to all major health problems. Our unique 4i scheme enables early career success by placing highly talented individuals with strong intellectual achievements in a highly supportive environment. The scheme provides each fellow with cutting-edge research projects under experienced supervision, regardless of the potential clinical specialty of the applicant. Ideally, candidates will not have identified research projects prior to applying. Up to five fellowships will be available to start in Summer/Autumn 2019 and must be taken up by the end of 2019.

The Imperial College Clinician-Investigator Scholarship (generously funded by a private donor) supports doctors demonstrating exceptional clinical academic merit who wish to undertake rigorous research training. ICCIS funded fellows are not expected to identify research projects prior to applying and have the option to undertake research projects under the Immunity, Inflammation, Infection and Informatics 4i research themes, or to go beyond the parameters of the themes, providing the project focuses on the academic strengths of Imperial and there is agreement to do so. There is potentially one ICCIS award available to start in Summer/Autumn 2019. Interviews – Friday 11th January 2019 Further information: Visit the CATO website or contact cato@imperial.ac.uk
