Teaching Fellow in Statistics at Imperial College London

Imperial College London has an opening research position. All students regardless of citizenship are eligible to apply. The deadline for applying is September 19, 2018.

The Department of Mathematics wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Statistics, to be in post by January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post holder will provide teaching cover for up to ten hours of lectures and classes per week, including the delivery of Statistics modules to mathematics students at undergraduate and MSc levels, and ancillary modules. The post holder will also undertake personal tutoring and supervise undergraduate and MSc projects.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Have a degree or equivalent with substantial Mathematics and Statistics components and have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in one of those disciplines, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of professional qualification and/or experience.
- Have, or be working towards, a recognised teaching qualification, or be able to demonstrate experience in a teaching environment.
- A specialist knowledge of Statistics, or a closely related field, and of teaching methods and techniques within the field of mathematics.
- Recent experience and proven competence of teaching or tutoring at an undergraduate level.
- Recent experience of teaching or tutoring in statistics, and be able to demonstrate the potential to teach Mathematics effectively and enthusiastically at an introductory undergraduate level.
- Have experience of promoting effective learning and interaction with students, together with the ability to motivate mathematics students in the study of statistics.

In addition to the above, the ability to contribute to the research profile of the Department would be an advantage, but is not essential. This is a fixed term contract which will last 24 months.
