Senior Lecturer in Translational Respiratory Medicine,

Employment until further notice as a senior lecturer in translational respiratory medicine, located until further notice at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund.

Work duties

The work duties cover pathophysiological research into inflammatory pulmonary disease. This includes experimental and clinical studies regarding diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea or interstitial pulmonary disease, from non-invasive methodology to cell biology.

Examples of research areas are respiratory physiology, imaging and issues concerning the biology of inflammation. The successful candidate will be assumed to conduct their own qualified research. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to take part in the faculty's various degree programmes in the first, second and third cycles of study. The position may also include internal and/or external elected office.


Pursuant to Chapter 4 Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person is qualified for employment as a senior lecturer if they have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve. Employment as a senior lecturer requires at least five weeks' training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way, unless special circumstances apply (see Lund University's appointment rules).

Grounds for assessment

The applicant is to have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of significance to the subject. In the assessment, particular emphasis will be placed on research expertise. The applicant is to have demonstrated research expertise by maintaining a good national and international level as a researcher and through well-certified research skills. Experience of research in translational respiratory medicine, such as pulmonary function studies, imaging and/or issues concerning the biology of inflammation, is an additional qualification, as are international networking experience and research grants obtained as the principal investigator in national and international competition. The applicant is to have demonstrated teaching expertise in both teaching and supervision in the first, second and third cycles of study. A documented ability to supervise doctoral students is an additional qualification. The applicant is to demonstrate ability for leadership, ability to interact with wider society and a good ability to collaborate. The applicant's research development potential will be taken into consideration in the assessment. The successful candidate is to master the Swedish language within a three-year period in order to be able to teach students and communicate within the University.
