Research Associate to research into design and develop plasmonic nanoparticles

The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on projects aimed at synthesizing and using innovative plasmonic nanomaterials for their applications in early diagnosis of breast cancer by imaging. This post is based within the Functional materials group at Imperial College London, working with Dr Fang Xie and involve collaborations with Department of Cancer and Surgery at Imperial College.

The Research Associate will design, synthesis and characterize plasmonic nanparticles for applications in biosensing and bioimaging. The Research Associate will perform wet synthetic protocols to biofunctionalise nanoparticles to direct cell response or enable new biomaterials. You will be expected to work in a multidisciplinary environment and be active in multiple projects within our labs and through collaborations. You will be offered extensive opportunities for collaborative work, both within and external to Imperial College.

Candidates/post holders will be expected to demonstrate the following:
- A PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or related subject or related field or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience
- A first degree (or equivalent) or a masters (or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, physics or similar.
- A demonstrated track record of original research in materials for biomedical applications
- An excellent track record of refereed journal publications demonstrating both numerical and analytical skills relevant for the investigation;
- Experience in novel plasmonic nanostructures synthesis or fabrication. (solution based approaches or nanolithography)

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380- 35,061 per annum.
