Research Associate in Cell Biology/Genetics - Cell-autonomous immunity to bacterial infection (Fixed Term)

A postdoc position is available at University Of Cambridge. This fellowship is available for all students around the world. Applicants should apply before September 24, 2018.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, funded by the Wellcome Trust, to explore the host response to pathogenic bacteria as part of the group of Professor Andres Floto, based at the MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The post is available immediately for 2 years in the first instance.

This project will explore how novel host restriction factors in macrophages influence infection with bacteria. It will incorporate forward and reverse genetics, synthetic lethality screens and phenotypic analysis.

Candidates should have a PhD degree with a strong background in infection, immunology, or genetics. Essential experience includes use of in vitro bacterial infection models, standard mammalian cell culture, and molecular cloning.

Previous experience with in vitro protein knockdown or knockout technology would be advantageous, although training can be provided. This post is well suited for independent, highly motivated and creative researchers with a proven track record in molecular bacteriology or immunology who wish to explore exciting biology at the interface between host and pathogen.

The Floto lab provides an exciting multidisciplinary research environment with strong collaborations with the WT Sanger Institute, EMBL-EBI, and University Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Engineering.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Andres Floto (
