Research Associate at Imperial College London

Applicants are invited to apply for a Postdoc position at Imperial College London. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply. Applicants should apply before October 17, 2018.

Are you an excellent early-career researcher in higher education, particularly in pedagogic research-intensive, and/or in STEMMB (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medical and Business) disciplinary contexts? Would you like to contribute to an ambitious programme of work aimed at establishing Imperial College London as a global leader in innovative, evidence-based education? If so, then this exciting and challenging opportunity could be the ideal next step in your career.

Imperial College launched a new Learning and Teaching Strategy in June 2017 and as part of this strategy, the College now seeks to appoint a Research Associate who will contribute to pedagogic research within the College.

You will be affiliated with the newly established Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarships (CHERS), the College's new hub for education innovation, research and training. It has been established to provide a new focus for pedagogic scholarship and research at Imperial and incorporates the Educational Development Unit, which provides a broad spectrum provision that supports the educational development of all who teach Imperial students.

This new post has been created to support the new Centre in developing pedagogic research. It involves working with a newly appointed Associate Professor of Education and others on a research project that will examine diversity and inclusion through the theoretical lens of Agency and linking this to Wellbeing. This is a new project that will be developed collaboratively with the post holder, but will likely look at both face-to-face and digital (online) interactions and may also involve some international collaboration. Given this focus, the post holder will also work with the Assistant Provost (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) and departments to facilitate the integration of diversity and inclusion elements into curricula, and evaluate and research the impact of the new interactive pedagogy on the fostering of an inclusive and diverse culture in the institution more widely.

The focus of this post will be:
- to collaboratively devise and deliver a research project examining 'Agency' and 'Wellbeing', exploring student development during campus and online programmes
- to work with departments undergoing the process of curriculum review and pedagogy transformation to support the implementation of diversity and inclusion elements into the curriculum
- to facilitate the evaluation of, and research on the impact of the diversity and inclusion elements of curriculum review and innovation across College
- to evaluate and research how the outcomes of interactive teaching impact on students from different backgrounds
- to work closely with the Strategic Planning Division, ensuring that their research is aligned with work on educational evaluation.

The Research Associate will have a PhD or equivalent, a strong background in relevant research and should be motivated, well organised and able to work effectively as part of a team. They should have excellent communication skills and an ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication.
