Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the Control and Power Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering working with Prof Strbac Goran and Dr Dimistrios Papadaskalopoulos. The role seek to explore new distributed models for low carbon energy systems, including the coordination of operation and planning decisions, through the employment of advanced optimization capable of capturing the individual objectives of multiple independent energy market players and identifying the system conditions emerging from their interactions.

You will investigate fundamentally new distributed models for low carbon energy systems, including the coordination of operation and planning decisions, through the employment of advanced optimization capable of capturing the individual objectives of multiple independent energy market players and identifying the system conditions emerging from their interactions among others. You will also supervise PhD students working in similar area and participate in relevant research projects of the Control and Power group.

The successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent in Energy Systems Optimisation, Operational Research, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related subject. Applicants are expected to have working experience with different programming languages and optimisation software tools, as well as good communication and technical writing skills. Priority will be given to applicants with strong knowledge of game-theoretic, bi-level optimisation, equilibrium programming reinforcement learning and/or stochastic / robust optimisation methodologies.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 - 35,061 per annum.
