Research Associate at Imperial College London

Imperial College London has an opening postdoc position. All students regardless of citizenship are eligible to apply. The deadline for applying is October 07, 2018.

An exciting new vacancy for a Research Associate is now available as part of a portfolio of cutting-edge research on the interface between hydrometeorological processes, water security, and public health in Sub-Saharan Africa. The activities will focus specifically on studying the link between water and health in the city of Accra, Ghana, and on the provision of hydrometeorological services for water security and water related risks in Ghana and Kenya. The position is part of two large international consortium projects funded by respectively the UK Wellcome Trust and the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme.

This is a fixed term appointment for 36 months.

You will be responsible for the design and implementation of a monitoring strategy, as well as the collection and analysis of hydrometeorological and health-related data. A combination of approaches will be used, including sensor networks, citizen science, and remote sensing.

You will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals based on this work, and to attract external research funding.

The position will also involve coordination of technology development delivered by contractors (e.g., website developers), interdisciplinary collaboration within the consortium including medical and social sciences, and day-to-day scientific management of the projects.

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering (or a closely related discipline), preferably with a focus on water resources and/or water related risks for appointment at Research Associate level.

You will have previous experience in advanced environmental data analysis including modelling and simulation, ideally related to the processing of hydrometeorological data. Experience with field work in logistically challenging environments will be an advantage.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
