Research Assistant/Associate in Polymer and Composites Engineering

Imperial College London is offering postdoc position. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply. The deadline for applying is September 29, 2018.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate in Polymer and Composite Engineering.

This project is funded through the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) and builds upon the vast knowledge and know-how on the design of bacterial cellulose-reinforced polymer composites and the recent successful preliminary research conducted by the same research team on enhancing the impact resistant of acrylic with bacterial cellulose.
- To develop, design, manufacture and optimise the reinforcing architecture of bacterial cellulose within a polymer matrix that will maximise shock absorbency, transparency and impact resistance
- To develop and perform laboratory tests to assess the quasi-static and dynamic mechanical behaviour of composites developed in the project
- To interact with other staff and students working in the broad areas of relevance to the project research
- To undertake and deliver high quality research that is published in high impact peer-reviewed journals and presented at local, national and international meetings, as well as assist with the supervision of the undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Candidates/post holders will be expected to demonstrate the following:
- None a genuine passion and excellence in research via their track record
- None extensive knowledge on cellulose physics and chemistry, nanocellulose engineering, nanocellulose composite design and manufacturing,
- None knowledge of working principles / operations of physical characterisation of polymeric materials, including (but not limited to) mechanical testing, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy and helium pycnometry.
- None experience in mechanical testing of materials, including (but not limited to) tensile, compression, dynamic testing and fracture resistance

Research Associate Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemistry or a related Engineering discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience

Research Assistant Near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemistry or a related Engineering discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
