Research Assistant/Associate in the Area of Micro and Nano Fibres and Devices (Fixed Term)

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on a consortium project for studying the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of the next generation carbon nanotubes based conducting wires.

The post holder will be located in the Nanoscience Centre, West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK

The key responsibilities and duties are to develop and optimise scalable processes for creating fibres and wires using carbon nanotube composite materials. This material will be used for creating conducting wires as well as energy storage devices and gas sensors.

Preparing results/writing articles: Contributing to reports as required by the sponsor.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in engineering, physics, chemistry or material science, and have experience in making fibres and devices with carbon materials, performing electrical, mechanical and electrochemical measurements.

Applicants will find skills in nanomaterials synthesis, electroplating, cleanroom device fabrication, wet spinning, thermal conductivity measurements, building experimental setup and scale-up of processes to be an advantage.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2020 in the first instance.
