Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.

The post will involve the design and development of an active bio-electromechanical interfacing tool, based on the fabrication of novel functional polymeric nanomaterials and their incorporation into prototype devices for applications in cell biology.

Candidates should have a PhD, or have submitted their thesis, in a relevant subject with a strong background in nanoscale fabrication and characterization methods, with an emphasis on piezoelectric polymers, as well as device engineering.

Candidates should have a detailed understanding of structure-property effects in piezoelectric nanomaterials and their applicability in bio-related devices in particular, strong background in processing and fabrication of nanostructured devices (including a wide variety of scalable nanofabrication techniques), expertise in the use of advanced analytical equipment such as x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, piezo-response force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy. Candidates should have experience in the development and fabrication of prototype devices for applications in cell biology, including printed devices and structures. Experience in the use of an aerosol-jet printer is mandatory whilst experience of mechanical and electromechanical characterization techniques, modelling and 3-D printing is desirable.
