Research Assistant- Mechanistic Details of Protein Misfolding Diseases

University of Cambridge is offering postdoctoral associate position in molecular biology. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply. The initial contract for this position is two years. The deadline to apply is October 08, 2018.

Maternity cover: This post is fixed-term for 1 year or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant role in the Centre for Misfolding Diseases to assist in studies related to understanding the mechanistic details involved in protein misfolding diseases. The project involves recombinantly expressing and purifying a number of misfolding-related proteins and peptides which will be used for a variety of biophysical analyses.

The successful candidate will produce these proteins in bacteria or yeast expression systems, purify them using a variety of chromatography techniques (Akta purification systems, HPLC) and characterise their purity using optical spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE analysis and western blotting. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, site-directed mutagenesis, molecular cloning and assisting in running a busy laboratory (i.e. purchasing, maintenance of equipment related to protein purification, DNA/protein stock organisation, and training new group members).

The successful candidate will have a B.Sc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant biological science. They will be highly motivated and able to work independently. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills are required to ensure success in liaising with a large and diverse team. Some experience with recombinant protein expression and purification is necessary, experience with standard molecular biology techniques is desirable but not essential.

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter and publications list in the upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents that have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.
