Research Assistant in Turbomachinery at University of Cambridge

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral associate position in machinery at University of Cambridge, UK. The funds for this position are available for 12 months. Applications are welcome before October 29, 2018.

An exciting position exists for a Research Associate/Assistant in Turbomachinery at the Department of Engineering. The successful candidate will work in the Compressor Team at the Whittle Laboratory, on the West Cambridge site.

The main aim of the Compressor Team is to make a difference to the next aero-engine design. The work includes all aspects of compressor aerodynamics including:
- In-service considerations.

Members of the Compressor Team work flexibly across multiple projects to deliver research on time-scales relevant to industry. The successful candidate is expected to have a long term future in the Compressor Team, supported by Rolls-Royce. In the first instance funding for this post is available for 12 months. On satisfactory completion of this initial period, it is expected that this will be converted into a rolling multi-year contract with possibilities for promotion.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:
- Candidates should have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in turbomachinery (or a related discipline) OR have equivalent industrial experience.
- Good knowledge of aerodynamics. Knowledge of turbomachinery aerodynamics would be beneficial.
- Be familiar with running CFD and analysis of results. Experience of turbomachinery CFD would be beneficial.
- The candidate would also ideally have experience of turbomachinery design, CAD modelling and programming.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent). Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
