Research Assistant in Industrial Data Analytics Management

A new openingpostdoctoral fellowship position in information systems is available at University of Cambridge, UK. The funding allows sucessfull candidates to work for 18 months in the first instance. Applications are invited up to October 23, 2018.

A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory to work on supply chain automation.

The focus of the project is to develop solution approaches for the day to day operational issues facing supply chain planning, using a combination of modelling, IoT based and optimisation approaches and data-driven techniques. The post-holder will help develop prototype software systems which can demonstrate the ability to make supply chain planning and scheduling solutions to improve resilience. The project aims to extend these prototypes into applications or methods to be used within actual operations within industry, as well as measure and evaluate the effectiveness of these in a real environment.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD (or close to obtaining a PhD) in Engineering, Computer Science or related scientific discipline, and research experience in all or some of the following areas:
- Simulation and modelling approaches for complex systems, for example with agent based approaches
- Data science, and new data-driven techniques for prediction
- Knowledge of industrial data management: enterprise IT systems used to support operations, how data is accessed (e.g. SQL) and represented in industrial information systems
- Writing software programs and developing prototype systems for demonstration and experimental learning

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
