Research Assistant in The Design and Fabrication of Implantable Sensors

University of Cambridge is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoctoral researcher position. The deadline for applying is October 12, 2018.

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the design and to fabricate implantable biosensors for measuring ion and metabolite concentrations in the brain.

One research aim in our laboratory is to understand the interplay between metabolic and electrophysiological activity. Implantable sensors that provide simultaneous electrophysiological recordings and metabolic/ionic activity would enable this understanding. The role holder will design implantable probes using organic electrodes and transistors and perform their biofunctionalization. The role holder will validate the probes by means of electrochemical and electrical measurements aiming to quantify the performance.

The successful candidate will have or be close to obtaining a PhD in engineering. They will have a proven track record of understanding how materials structure affects function in thin film transistors. They will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of experiment techniques in thin film transistor characterisation.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2020 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a covering letter and research publications list in the Upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application. Please submit your application by midnight on the closing date.

If you have any questions about this vacancy or the application process, please contact Kirsty Shepherd, Administrator, Bioelectronics Laboratory at (tel +44 01223 748 380).
