Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant post to work with Dr Sanjay Sinha, based in the Anne McLaren Laboratory, Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, University of Cambridge.

We are seeking for an individual to join our group and work on a tissue engineering project involving the generation of a next generation cardiac patch for myocardial tissue repair after infarction. In particular, we are using human embryonic stem cells (hESC) which can be differentiated into cardiomyocytes that can be further used to generate human engineered scaffolds that resemble native myocardium. The project aims to develop an optimized engineered heart scaffold suitable for transplantation. Further details of the Sinha group at http://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/research/pis/sinha

The main responsibilities of the post will include hESC maintenance and differentiation, generation of a cell bank as well as biochemical and cell-based assays such as immunocytochemistry, qPCR and flow cytometry. The successful candidate will have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline with previous laboratory experience. Previous knowledge, especially in stem cell biology would be advantageous.

The post requires the ability to work under your own initiative and to apply problem-solving skills to troubleshoot challenging technical issues. You will be organised and able to follow instructions accurately with attention to details. The role requires good interpersonal and communication skills, good time-management, and multiple-task handling and organisation skills.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
