Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

We are looking for a Research Assistant to help maintain and develop further our existing computational genetics, genomics and phenotyping infrastructure and databases.

The ideal candidate has a background in computational genomics, computer science, software engineering or related disciplines with an MSc or significant equivalent experience. An excellent working knowledge of bash scripting, Python and Java are essential. Experience with the distributed data processing framework Apache Hadoop, in particular HBase, MapReduce and Spark, is required. Good knowledge of R/Bioconductor is strongly desired for visualisation and analysis purposes. The candidate will ideally have experience using highperformance computing clusters. A systematic and rigorous approach to work and an ability to work to targets both independently and within a team environment are essential.

The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of quantitative scientists, bioinformaticians and clinician scientists and be based at the NHS Blood and Transplant premises on the Addenbrooke’s Biomedical Campus in Cambridge, UK.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
