Research Assistant - Cellular control of bacterial infection (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant, funded by the Wellcome Trust, to explore the host response to pathogenic bacteria as part of the group of Professor Andres Floto, based at the MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

This project will explore how macrophages interact with bacteria to identify both new host restriction factors and bacterial virulence factors. It will incorporate forward and reverse genetics, candidate gene approaches, and phenotypic analysis.

The post requires a BSc in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology or equivalent. Experience in molecular cloning, western blot analysis, and cell culture are essential. Previous experience with protein knockdown/knockout technology and working at CL2 would be advantageous, although training can be provided. The Floto lab provides an exciting multidisciplinary research environment with strong collaborations with the WT Sanger Institute, EMBL-EBI, and University Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Engineering.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
