Postdoctoral Research Associate: Developmental Neuroscience Hox genes and the diversification of neuronal networks

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoc position at University Of Cambridge. This fellowship is available for all students around the world. Applicants should apply before September 17, 2018.

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals who are interested in fundamental mechanisms of neuronal development. The postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to work with Dr. Jimena Berni and her group in the Department of Zoology, at the University of Cambridge. The position is funded for up to 24 months to start on 1 October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Our research focusses on the relation between neuronal circuits and behaviour with an emphasis on the diversification of circuits and the role of genes in specifying different neuronal networks and their assembly during development. We use state of the art techniques of Drosophila neurogenetics and combine it with the study of behavior to understand how Hox genes orchestrate the diversification of motor circuits during nervous system development.
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team
- The ability to organise time and work effectively, independently and responsibly
- Prior experience in molecular biology and microscopy would be beneficial.
- Prior experience conducting behavioural experiments would be an advantage.

The post-holder will be expected to work independently designing, performing, analysing and interpreting their experiments. They will participate in the dissemination of research through publications and oral presentations both within the department and at conferences. They will also be expected to help advise and possibly train other members of the lab, as and when required.

For information about research in Dr Berni’s lab see biomechanics-and-behaviour/berni-group For informal enquiries about the position please contact Dr Jimena Berni (

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to 24 months to start on 1 October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
