Postdoc Position at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge is offering postdoctoral associate position in biochemistry. This position is available for 2 years in the first instance. Applications should be sent before October 30, 2018.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the development and applications of a microfluidic platform for analysing liquid-liquid phase separation of proteins and its modulation by spatially inhomogeneous conditions under the supervision of Professor Tuomas Knowles. The project is funded by the EU Future Emerging Technologies project “NANOPHLOW” and is part of a collaboration with academic groups bridging theory and experiment in Cambridge, Paris, Utrecht and Barcelona.

The aim of the project is to characterise the basic biophysical determinants of liquid-liquid phase separation of peptide and proteins and its modulation by spatially inhomogeneous conditions and spatial gradients. This phenomenon is increasingly recognised at the core of biological function and malfunction but has been challenging to probe in a quantitative manner in vitro. This proposal aims to bring cutting edge microfluidic technology into this area to address these challenges.

Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in protein biophysics. Prior knowledge of microfluidics is not required. Candidates are expected to have a strong publication record as evidence of relevant professional experience.

The successful candidate will hold, or should be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant discipline (i.e. Biochemistry, Chemistry, Applied Physics).

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter and publications list in the upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents that have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.
