A position exists for a Research Associate to work with Dr Jack Thorne on a project funded by the European Research Council titled ‘Global Methods in the Langlands Program’. The aim of the project is to study all aspects of the arithmetic Langlands program over global fields, applying tools from Galois deformation theory, the trace formula, arithmetic geometry, geometric representation theory, and p-adic automorphic forms.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. He/She must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. He/She may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

The ideal candidate should have, or be about to receive, a PhD in mathematics (or equivalent). He/She will have expertise in at least one of these aspects of the Langlands program and be excited about the opportunity to apply these techniques in innovative ways.
