PhD Studies in Theoretical Chemistry and Biology

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden is inviting excellent candidates to apply for a PhD position in physics. The funds for this fellowship are available for two years. Potential candidates should apply before October 04, 2018.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden's largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Third-cycle subject: Theoretical Chemistry and Biology with focus on modeling metalorganic frameworks.

The Department of Theoretical Chemistry and Biology (TCB) is recruiting one PhD student to develop models for simulations of reactions in metalorganic frameworks. These structures are constructed of metal oxide clusters linked to organic carboxylic acids, resulting in unique properties such as extremely large pores with large surfaces.

In this project, methods will be developed and used to study diffusion and distribution of reactants and products in the pores, we will determine the adsorption energy of substrates, and new methods will be developed. The project is part of a major effort for sustainable synthesis (CATSS).

We are looking for one candidate with a MSc degree in physics or chemistry.

This projects is part of a collaborative project between KTH and USTC (University of Science and Technology of China). Up to 50% of the time will be spent in this prestigious institute in China and give the opportunity to develop a unique international profile for the future career. TCB is recruiting two students that both will be part of this initiative and conduct their secondments to USTC in parallel. Main supervisor will be Assoc. Prof. Mrten Ahlquist at TCB. Co-supervisors will be Assoc. Prof Zilvinas Rinkevicius at TCB and Prof. Yi Luo at TCB. Prof. Yi Luo is also the director of the HFNL institute (Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale) at USTC.
- The possibility to study in a dynamic international research environment in close cooperation with one of the leading universities in China.
- A personal study plan to support your development within your areas of interest.
- During time spent at KTH, a monthly salary is received according to . During time spent at USTC, a monthly salary is received from USTC at a level corresponding to the salary at KTH.
- Travel costs in connection with the secondments at USTC will be paid by the employer.
- Help to relocate and get settled in Sweden and at KTH .

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 hgskolefrordningen), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

passed a degree at advanced level, Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in any other way acquired within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.
