Full-time Teaching Assistant / PhD Fellow in Immunology- Ghent University Global Campus, Korea

Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, has a vacancy for a full-time teaching assistant position, possibly leading to a PhD graduation in the area of Immunology, (starting date: October 1st or as soon as possible, open to negotiation). It concerns a 1-year full-time position for a renewable period of maximum 4 years.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Magez and Prof. Magdalena Radwanska at the Biomedical Research Center. The selected candidate is expected to teach undergraduate practical courses, design and perform high-quality scientific research at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea.

The research topic focuses on inflammatory responses induced by trypanosome parasites and includes the transcriptomic analysis of key immunomodulatory and effector cells. Bioinformatics data analysis will be crucial to the completion of the project. Knowledge of biochemical pathways that govern host-parasite interactions is a prerequisite for this work.
- Teach and oversight students during exercise sessions and practical courses of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Animal Biology, Molecular Biological Analysis, Immunology and Seminars & Company Visits.

1.. Preparing reagents, materials, checklists, and protocols for the Lab courses

2. Setting up the classrooms and practical course rooms

3. Arranging classrooms, laboratories, and materials back into order at the end of the courses

Organization of field excursions (course field trip) and company visits for students
- Execution of research center projects in the field of Immunobiology of Trypanosomosis
- Management of the laboratory stocks and preparation of inventories
- Master degree in one of the following sciences: Immunology, Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bio-engineering or equivalent.
- Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience after the Master’s degree in case the candidate does not have the Korean nationality (visa requirement Korean government).
- Teaching education experience in terms of practical course guidance, and experience in an international academic education setting.
- The ability to design and perform high-quality scientific research.
- The ability to publish your results in peer-reviewed international journals and actively participate in international conferences.
- The willingness to work with experimental animal models and are dedicated to respect the highest ethical requirements and applicable standards.
- Strong English communication and presentation skills in both speaking and writing.
- Knowledge of the Korean language is an asset, as it will enable you to mediate communication with Korean companies, equipment/reagent providers, and outsourcing partners.
- Excellent service oriented mind and a pro-active attitude with the maturity to deal with stressful situations and a strong sense of responsibility.
- The ability to work independently, have strong self-learning ability, and maintain an excellent team spirit as well as strong working ethics.
- Willingness to work flexible working hours from time to time and participate in events outside of regular working hours can be required.
- Copy of the BSc and MSc degrees
