PhD Position in Mathematics at University of Sussex

University of Sussex has an opening PhD scholarship in mathematics. This position is open only for European students. Applications are invited up to August 31, 2015.

The project aims to derive, analyse and numerically solve inhomogeneous Boltzmann-like models and their Fokker-Planck-type limit equations arising in socio and econo-physical models of opinion formation processes and price formation in financial markets. The aim is to describe the opinion or price dynamics in a complex system like the human society by means of microscopic interactions among individuals and to gain insight into the interplay of microscopic dynamics and macroscopic observables like the distribution of opinions or prices.
Application Requirements
- Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a UK Bachelor degree in Mathematics at first or upper second class, and/or a UK Master's degree in Mathematics, or equivalent non-UK qualifications. A high standard of written and spoken English is essential.
- Due to funding restrictions, the studentship is open to UK and EU resident students only.
