Doctoral Position in VapBC in Sulfolobus

University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated PhD student with an interest in biology. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply. The deadline for applying is March 22, 2015.

Toxin Antitoxin (TA) genes of the vapBC type are widespread in archaea and were found to respond to heat shock and viral infections in the thermophile Sulfolobus. The overall goal of the project is to use the Sulfolobus as a model system to gain novel insights into the functional and, in particular, structural aspects of pathogenic bacterial TAs. The PhD candidate can expect to gain experience in protein chemistry, genetics and working with viruses.
Application Requirements
- The preferred candidate will have an MSc degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or another related field.
- Candidates with experience in Sulfolobus genetics and virology will be preferred.
- Further requirements include a minimum of one year experience with independent research project(s) in the laboratory, and fluency in written and spoken English.
