Postdoctoral Research in Social Sciences

University of London is delighted to offer postdoc funding in social sciences. The duration of this scholarship is up to 3 years. This position is open only for European students. Applications are invited up to April 20, 2015.

The School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy will award up to six fully funded Postgraduate Research Scholarships in 2015. These scholarships will include a number of Birkbeck ‘ Anniversary Scholarships' offered by the College Innovation Fund. The competition is primarily open to new Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place.
Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.

Benefits
The scholarship awards will include a fee waiver up to the value of the full-time home/EU rate for MPhil/PhD degrees (currently £ 3,99, in addition to an annual stipend set at Research Council rates (currently £ 15,86); pro rata in the case of a part-time award.

Duration
Scholarships are offered for up to 3 years (subject to the holder making satisfactory academic progress).

Application Requirements
Students applying for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology are eligible for these awards. The competition is primarily open to new Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place. Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.

In addition to applications in the general subject areas of History, Classics and Archaeology, we also encourage applications related to the following four thematic areas: Communicating Cultures '; Gender Studies; Super Diversity '; Zones of Conflict and Contestation. Cross-departmental and cross-school applications – where the primary supervisor is based within the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy – are also welcomed.

How to apply?
Please note that in order to apply for a Postgraduate Research Scholarship prospective students must also apply for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, either before (strongly encouraged) or at the same time as applying for a scholarship. Once you have applied online for an MPhil/PhD place, please fill in the SSHP Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

Please note: If your topic falls within one of the four thematic areas highlighted above, please tick the relevant box as well as the general box ‘ History'. Completed forms must be returned to the research student administrator Jana Kakosova (j.kakosova-at-bbk.ac.uk) by Monday 20th April 2015.
