Aston University is seeking a highly motivated PhD student with an interest in physics. The duration of this scholarship is 3 years. To be eligible, candidates must hold European citizenship. Applications are invited up to February 10, 2015.

The projects will include theoretical and experimental studies of pulsed fibre lasers including: pulsed random fibre lasers; advanced fibre mode-locked laser schemes with extended cavity, pulsed Raman fibre lasers, and dispersion-managed dissipative solitons in fibre lasers.

Applications are invited for three-year PhD studentships supported partially by the European Research Council project led by Professor S. K. Turitsyn.

The PhD studentship is available to undertake research projects within the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) at Aston University, UK.

The successful applicants will join a world-renowned Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies and will be working at the cutting edge of interdisciplinary research problems and industrial applications. This is an opportunity to become a member of a vibrant team with a successful track record in photonics.

This studentship includes a fee bursary of £ 3,996 to cover the home/EU fees rate plus a maintenance allowance of £ 13,863 in 2014/15.

Applicants from outside the EU may apply for this studentship but will need to pay the difference between the  Home/EU and the Overseas tuition fees, currently this is £ 10,914 in 2014/15.

Scholarships are offered for three years.
