PhD Scholarship in Biology

University of Oslo is offering PhD fellowship in biology. The duration of this scholarship is up to 4 years. To be eligible, candidates must hold Norwegian citizenship. Applications are invited up to February 28, 2015.

Position as PhD Research fellow is available at the Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo. Within the framework of the position, teaching duties may be assigned.

The ideal starting date is 1st April 2015, and no later than 1st July 2015. No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.

The candidate will work on protein purification and structural biology experiments, in a project funded by the Research Council of Norway. The goal of the project is to elucidate mechanisms used by bacteria to adhere to surfaces and other cells. A better understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms could help to develop innovative antimicrobial drugs or surface coatings.

Position code 1017, Pay grade: 50 57 (NOK 429 700 – 482 800 per year).

Application Requirements
- The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
- Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or related fields.
- In addition, the candidate should have gained insights into modern molecular biology, biochemistry, and structural biology techniques during his/her studies.
- Ideal candidates have previously worked experimentally with proteins, using either x-ray crystallography or NMR during their MSc thesis.
- The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
- A good command of English is required.
