Research opportunities in Medicine at University of Queensland

Applicants are invited to apply for research position in health sciences at The University of Queensland. To be eligible, candidates must hold Australian citizenship. The deadline for applying is February 22, 2015.

A PhD opportunity is available for a student with an Honours/Masters degree in a health related field to join a dynamic research group at COH for research on telehealth in residential care. In addition to the CRE, the Centres have secured funding from the NHMRC to examine the effectiveness of telehealth to reduce utilization of external health services by residents in long term care.

The service model comprises geriatrician and gerontic nurse administered comprehensive geriatric assessment and care planning, supplemented by a wide range of telehealth enabled specialist disciplines, into the residential aged care facility (RACF) setting. It is designed to address a series of problems encountered by clinicians and administrators within RACFs in Australia, including inadequate access to specialist health care providers; professional isolation of nurses; sub-optimal care standards and over-use of hospital services in emergencies.

As part of the formal application process to UQ, the student will work with the relevant Supervisors, to articulate a research question within the scope of this larger project. This position is based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba QLD.
