PhD positions in biology at the IMPRS

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD scholarship in biology at IMPRS. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply. Applications are invited up to February 22, 2015.

PhD scholarships are available in fields spanning the life sciences: structural biology and biochemistry; molecular biology and cell biology; bioinformatics; biophysics; plant and animal developmental biology; evolution, ecology and genomics. These scholarships are offered by the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) “From Molecules to Organisms”, based in Tuebingen, Germany.

Our program provides an interdisciplinary environment for doctoral research in the life sciences. We want to endow the next generation of scientists with the skills and knowledge to study complex biological processes that can not be adequately understood within the limits of a single discipline.

The Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology runs the school in conjunction with the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory and the Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen.

Application Requirements
Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a degree in natural or computer science from a Diplom, Masters or equivalent program. Your current skills and knowledge should match well to your proposed area of doctoral research.

To start in September 2015, all degree work must be finished by September 1, 2015 and we require the final degree certificate by December 2015. Feel free to contact the IMPRS Coordinator for additional information.

Applicants with degrees from outside the European Higher Education Area must submit GRE General Test scores. To have your scores forwarded to us online, supply our institution code: 4791. As a guide, successful applicants have typically scored above 152 (above 500 for pre-2011 scores) on the verbal test and above 155 (700) on the quantitative test. Applicants with an Indian GATE score are invited to enter this information; a good GATE score can substitute for the GRE. A TOEFL score cannot replace the GRE scores, but can be submitted in addition, if available.

How to apply?
The online application will open on 1 January, 2015.

Application to the program involves three parts: filling in the online application form, uploading a file containing all your certificates and arranging for 2 reference letters to be submitted directly to our online system.
