PhD Position in Theoretical Chemistry

University of Copenhagen is pleased to invite applicants to apply for PhD funding in chemistry. The duration of this scholarship is 3 years to 4 years. To be eligible, candidates must hold Danish citizenship. Applications are invited up to February 01, 2015.

A scholarship for a PhD project is available in the group of associate professor Thorsten Hansen at the Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen. The position is available from March 1st 2015 or soon thereafter. Part of the work will be in collaboration with experimental groups in Lund.

Currently, starting salaries are about 25,440.90 DKK per month for Ph.D. students – plus pension. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization.

The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Currently, starting salaries are about 25,440.90 DKK per month for Ph.D. students – plus pension.

The position is for 3 years (Alternatively, a 4 years combined Masters/PhD could be offered to a suitable candidate).

Application Requirements
A background in theoretical chemistry, nanoscience, or physics is expected. A candidate experienced with one or more of the following topics will be given priority: Many-particle physics, Non-equilibrium Green " s functions, Open quantum systems, Quantum transport theory, Electronic structure theory, Scripting and programming.

Fluency in English, spoken and written, is expected. The candidate must be a team player, willing and able to engage in a cross-disciplinary, collaborative project. The successful candidate will learn and develop theory of coherent, multi dimensional spectroscopy using many-body methods and simulate and interpret spectra of energy and charge flow in photosynthetic proteins and other photochemical systems based on effective Hamiltonians.

In addition, the Ph.D. student is required to participate in teaching and similar tasks as assigned by the department.
